Are You Ready for IUI?

Dealing with repeated miscarriages is frustrating. More so, when you have to deal with inquisitive relatives, friends and family members, who are more interested to know the reason for your miscarriages or infertility. While giving no heed to your physical (and mental) conditions, people get more obsessed with your inability to bear a child.

As a  woman,  I can understand, nothing is exasperating than this. On the one hand, you have to deal with the agony of miscarriage and on the other there is the physical distress that you must take into account. And go for appropriate treatment for the same.

Here comes the concept of IUI or intrauterine insemination – the widely appreciated treatment plan that helps you get the child, while treating your underlying problems as well. But before you go for it, you need to know whether you are ready for it.

What is IUI
Intrauterine Insemination is basically a fertility treatment (Assisted Reproductive Technology) that helps to deal with issues like unexplained infertility, endometriosis or cervical mucus that could possibly stand in the way of getting a child.

Are You the Ideal Candidate for IUI?
In order to make sure that you are the ideal candidate for the procedure, the doctors need to ensure that your fallopian tubes are open and the quality of your eggs are good enough to get matured. At the same time your hormone levels will also be checked. If all these three aspects are in proper sync with each other, you are the ideal candidate for IUI.

In case, themotility rate of your partner’s sperm is poor, doctors will opt for washing procedure of IUI. It is known as a great alternative to treat male infertility. Through this treatment, the chances of conception gets increased even if your partner suffers from poor sperm count or lower motility rate.

When You Can’t Have IUI
However, you must take into account that IUI is not recommended for everyone. If you are suffering from any of the following conditions and your repeated miscarriages is a possible consequence of these factors, you are not the ideal candidate for IUI.

  • Tubal blockage or severe tubal damage
  • Poor ovarian reserve or menopause
  • Advanced stages of endometriosis
  • Advanced age (e.g.>40) of the female is not ideal for IUI.
  • Severe male factor infertility that includes poor sperm count, abnormal motility and morphology scores.
